Mandarin fish, known to inhabit the City's first-rate waters, boiled with chicken, ginseng and jujube, is not only the best-tasting native food, but is also nutritious and good for the prevention of adult diseases, with its low fat, high protein and low calorie content and its non-greasy and strong meat taste. Other famous native foods are Olgengi soup, with its traditional savory taste, which is good for hangovers and neuralgia and improves eyesight and the function of the liver; non-greasy and soft Okolkye-Tang, which is good for neuralgia, women's diseases, high blood pressure and diabetes; and herb pork grilled with seasonings.

Seasonal customs of the Cheongju area include maior holidays such as New Year's Day, the fifth of the first month (lunar), the Tano festival, and Thanksgiving with a game of Yut, kite-flying, a game of fire, a kicking shuttlecock game, swing, seesaw, and farm music for folk games. Cheongju Farm Music is particularly characterized by much quick rhythm and with a dance spinning head belt above the head, as our ancestors played . A 200-year tradition, Seondosan Jangseungje is held on the fifth of every month in the lunar calendar and allows people to enjoy the old sentiments, with Jangseunggosa wishing for the happiness of the village residents, along with folk games such as the Mangu fire game and the Jwi fire game.
