Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly) Street
Cheongju was home to Korea’s first pork belly restaurants. It is known that they are Mansu’s House and Daughter’s House, which were located by Cheongju Drugstore in the early 1960s. At that time, pork was hard to come by and unlike today, few knew about parts of pork. Therefore, most people put them in stews. So in those days, the idea of grilling pork over a gridiron on a coal briquette fire and sprinkling it with salt was a ground-breaking ideal.
