Midongsan Arboretum is the largest arboretum that is located in the central part of Korea, housing a total of 700,000 items in 900 odd species on 2.5 million ㎡ of land. The arboretum contains more than 10 professional gardens including the Wild Plant & Flower Garden, Fruit-bearing Tree Garden, Conifer Garden, Oak Garden, Maple Garden, and the Warm Temperate Botanical Garden. Also in the arboretum are nature-friendly well-being and recreation spaces such as Chungbuk Forest Science Museum, Wood Culture Experience Site, Wild Grass Exhibition Garden, Insect Ecology Garden, Ecology Experience Exploration Route, and MTB Course. It is ideal for people who want to listen to the fragrant stories told by the flowers, trees, and grass.

Details

Midongsan Arboretum was built with the aim of conserving, growing, and researching genetic resources of local native plants in the central region of Korea. The arboretum boasts specialized gardens such as genetic conservation and abeliophyllum gardens as well as Korea’s first Wood Culture Experience Site, Chungbuk Forest Science Museum, Forest Ecology Garden, and Wild Grass Exhibition Garden. This makes the arboretum popular as a place of forest culture. Midongsan Arboretum grows with people by developing various educational programs for the promotion of nature preservation.

Roles of Arboretum

An arboretum maintains the value of plant genes by collecting and conserving various gene resources, and spreads plant knowledge and takes the lead in creating a sound forest environment culture by researching, managing, and exhibiting the gene resources. Plants are vital natural resources for us. People can easily learn about nature in peace while planting and taking care of trees. In addition, with an eye towards fulfilling its roles as a mecca of research on forests in the inland of the central region of Korea, Midongsan Arboretum researches, develops, and diffuses new technology by actively making good use of advanced forestry technology and contributes to raising forestry productivity and the preservation of the forestry environment. The arboretum works on developing new varieties of trees, conducts research on the use of forests, and exhibits a wide array of plants. They also minimize damages from tree diseases and harmful insects through research, protect and breed rare wild animals and endangered animals, and create an ecological education environment. By doing so, people are offered a joyful educational place and an agreeable green resting place. The Forestry Educational Hall was built to give teenagers and future generations historical and social education.
