Eco Experience

Like Seoul’s Nanjido Park, Munam Ecological Park was built on a landfill. Since 1994, Cheongju buried household garbage in the area until December 2000, when the city stopped filling the place with garbage and kicked off a period of environmental cleanup and stabilization. As the site stabilized, construction work started in May 2008 with the aim of turning the large space into a beautiful park. The park was completed in November 2009. The 210,000㎡area is comprised of a family park where families can enjoy picnics a well-being park where visitors can play Jokgu, basketball, and volleyball, and an ecological park with a culture and eco trail, an ecological garden, and a silver grass field. Its main facilities include a venue for family picnics, a barbecue area, an outdoor camping site, resting shelters, and Munam Madang (Fall). Visitors can feel and experience nature in an environmental experience play area, the sculpture park, a wetland eco-park, an eco observation deck, a culture and eco trail, a flower garden, and an arboretum. In addition, they can use sports facilities such as basketball courts, jogging tracks, and foot volleyball fields or head to the healthy forest experience zone and the themed well-being forest. In particular, the park is adjacent to Mihocheon Stream and as such is connected to the bicycle and walk paths created over the riverbed, which makes it popular among those who enjoy leisure activities.
