  • SummaryCheongwon Yeonkkot Village was formerly known as ‘Jangbawijuk’, and was formed around a 13,200㎡ reservoir in the 1900s. Lotuses, which symbolize the hope and dream of bumper harvest to nearby famers, began to bloom on the embankment. Thus, people began to call it ‘Lotus Embankment.’ The well-being era turned the village into a resting place for nearby residents and a beautiful sight for Cheongju citizens.

Detailed Information

Introduction

Cheongwon Yeonkkot Village (Gunghyeon-ri) was originally an area of Isang-myeon, Seogang-nae, Cheongju-gun and was called Gunghyeon as it resembled a bow. According to a legend, Jin Ja Gun of Baekje was defending the northern border on the order of the king. One day, Jin had a fierce battle with the army of Goguryeo but lost. Then he broke an arrow and hid. So this was called Hwalgogae or Gunghyeon (Arrow Hill).

Cheongwon Yeonkkot Village (Gunghyeon-ri) which received the spirit of Eunjeoksan Mountain is located in the south of Kangnae-myeon. Villagers live quietly in peace while helping each other.

The high-speed industrial civilization drives factories in small rural villages and the expansion of road networks makes rural areas busy and boisterous these days. But Cheongwon Yeonkkot Village has kept its environment clean and its rural atmosphere beautiful despite being at the center of nationwide transportation.
A reform of administrative districts in 1917 combined Gondol, Buntogol, Bangadari, and Buryang into Gunghyeon-ri and inserted the village into Gangnae-myeon.

Cheongwon Yeonkkot Village continues to become famous nationwide through its green farming village experience program. In 2007, the village nabbed the Minister of Agriculture Award in a nationwide farming village contest.
