Cheongju-si has secured 100.6 billion won budget which is 47% increase compared to before the integration of city to vitalize the cultural arts, to create cultural basis which the people of Cheongju can enjoy and to actualize the core tourist spot of central Korea, under the vision in cultural tourism of sixth government by election.
Among 4 cities with more than 80 thousand population and 3 cities near Cheongju, Cheongju has second largest cultural facility infrastructure, and is establishing its identity as life culture city by realizing cultural welfare.

▶ Waking up the world with the creative value of Jikji

Jikji Korea International Festival which was authorized by government after integrating the UNESCO Jikji award ceremony and Cheongju Jikji festival was a success and heightened expectation as a global festival.
Under the theme "Jikji, awakening the world", world famous artists like Ron Arrard, Abe Rogers participated in exhibition and the festival hosted various experience programs for the young and the old which was very popular.
Especially, "Jikji pavilion" created by Ron Arrard and "Jikji wall" by director Jeon Byeong Sam of Jikji Korea not only interested people, but became the representative symbolic sculpture of Jikji Korea.
Effective division of free and paid zone and programs enjoyable for anyone, high quality exhibition contents were the significant success factors of the festival.
Also, the "Jikji award 2.0 roundtable" of the previous award winners, "International printing museum association foundation meeting" which Cheongju played significant role, and Jikji globalization project with UNESCO in the future will promote the excellence of Jikji to the world.
Meanwhile, in Jikji Korea International Festival, about 300 thousand visitors visited for 8 days from September 1 to 8. The results will be analyzed on December 21 when a debate will be hosted to discuss the weak points for improvement and prepare better event.

▶ Korea, living in the play - Echo of life, feast of hope

With the slogan "Korea, living in play - echo of life, feast of hope", the first Korean Theatre Festival was hosted 20 days from June 3 to 22 at Cheongju Arts Center main stage and other stages in Cheongju-si.
In the festival, 16 cities and "do"s of entire nation participated and 200 thousand visitors enjoyed and felt the true theatre.
Especially, this year, the "National Theatre Festival" with 33 years of history and tradition reorganized as "the first Korean Theatre Festival" which the whole national participated was held in Cheongju which was integrated again in 68 years which was very meaningful.
With the performance of major plays, the first light theme arts exhibition of Chungbuk and other various events were held which opened the 100 year Renaissance of Korean theatre.

▶ Cheongju night walk program “Enjoy the beautiful night of Cheongju with history’

To make "enjoyable cultural property day and night", the Cultural Heritage Administration and Chungbuk-do hosted a cultural property recycle project " 2016 Cheongju night walk, Bamduri Nonidaga" from August 26 to 28 in the city.
In 12 cultural heritage regions from Joongang park, Cheoldanggan, Chungbuk-do office, to Cheongju Hyanggyo, various exhibition, performance, tour guide and experience events were hosted.
The night walk around cultural property was organized as walking exploration at night.
In downtown Cheongju, based on the old castle site, inside the castle has government offices from Goryeo and Joseon dynasty, religious, military buildings, and Buddhist cultural properties, while outside the castle has buildings after the 1900s and Cheongju Hyanggyo, and a classic trail between them.
With the successful result of " 2016 Cheongju night walk", it was chosen in 2017 Cultural Heritage Administration contest, and the city will organize the largest scale night cultural recycle program with total 700 million won budget including 350 million won government expenses.

▶ Chopstick culture spreading toward the global world

"2016 Chopsticks Festival" was hosted for 18 days from November 10 to 27.
It was the second year of the festival and there were exhibitions, academic conference, chopsticks day events and was praised as it became a representative contents of Cheongju as East Asia. There were 52 thousand visitors including 3 thousand foreign visitors in the festival, and local government officials from Busan, Jeju, Jeonju, Andong and Yeongju visited the festival. Cultural Heritage Administration, National Folk Museum, Korea Creative Content Agency and Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine visited the festival and showed their deep interest to life culture, story telling of chopsticks and its cultural contents.
The event confirmed the potential of chopsticks as cultural goods.
Cheongju-si has developed 100 types of chopsticks cultural good such as lacquer cutlery, brassware cutlery, ash tree chopsticks, and spoon binder. Cheongju-si received praised that it prepared the foundation to develop the city with unique chopsticks culture and contents and the city is reviewing the plan to establish chopsticks research lab to lead various programs suh as education, goods development, global marketing and developing it to local specified resources. Also, to register chopsticks culture as UNESCO world heritage, the city is cooperating with Korean, Chinese and Japanese government and UNESCO.

▶ Cheongjueupseong party celebrating 424 year anniversary of retake of Cheongjuseong Castle

On September 3 and 4, there was Cheongjueupseong Party celebrating 424 year anniversary of retake of Cheongjuseong castle with the slogan "Shout as one, raise the flag" at Seongangil.
Cheongju Cultural Center which held the party first time this year had recruited cultural arts company and private art circles in Cheongju to perform in event and let many people participate and enjoy the festival. Starting from Seowon-gu office with Chitadae and flag to Joongang park west gate, the parade lasted for 2.4km with more than 1000 people from various arts company, art circles and people of Cheongju led 500m length march. Also, the magnificent drum rolling of 424 civil forces held the footstep of the people. The reenact of battle with Japanese on Cheongjudaegyo Bridge and air performance of Ulim, the percussion orchestra led cheers of audience and became the highlight of the parade. In Chengjueupseong academic seminar, about 100 people participated to realize the identity of local culture through the history of Cheongjueupseong and proposed development direction of the festival.

▶ Economic ripple effect of 69.6 billion won in 2016 Cheongwon Life Festival

The 2016 Cheongwon Life Festival was held for 10 days from September 30 to October 9 at Future Agricultural Theme Park in Ochang-eup, Cheongju-si. The festival promoted excellence of Cheongju agricultural goods and Cheongju as the life culture city.
According to the "2016 Cheongwon Life Festival evaluation report", 520 thousand people visited and recorded 4.1 billion won sales of agricultural goods, which was 40 thousand visitor more and 600 million won increase in sales, and had economic ripple effect of total 69.6 billion won.
Also, this year's festival maximized the park facility utility by arranging facility, relocating food court garden and received praised from visitors by improving convenience of visitors, expanding parade performance to enhance the mobility in festival, experience activities, snow booth and other new contents.
According to the festival analysis material, 50.8% of visitors came with friends and family for holiday, and 85.8% of the visitors were with family(relative), friend or lovers. Also, the will to revisit was more than 90.5% which indicated very high satisfaction of visitors.

▶ Confirmed potential of King Sejong and Chojeong Mineral Water Festival

The 10th King Sejong and Chojeong Mineral Water Festival has confirmed its potential to be the national festival and Cheongju-si festival on the month of family, May.
Based on the top 3 mineral water in the world, the Chojeong mineral water and historical fact that King Sejong once stayed in Chojeong, Cheongju-si hosts King Sejong and Chojeong Mineral Water festival at the end of every May(3 days) at Chojeong-ri, Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu.
According to the festival evaluation report, this year's festival was under the theme of "Dream of King Sejong, #Saengsaengjirak in Chojeong", and held various cultural experience events and performance which attracted 65 thousand visitors and 160 million won sales. Especially, in survey targeting 510 visitors, 274 visitors were with their families (53.7%), which was the highest proportion and indicated that it is the representative festival of Cheongju in the month of family. Also, the visitors from outside the city were 246(482.5) which showed the potential of festival to be a national festival.

▶Opened "Cheongju City Art Museum", a complex cultural arts space

2 years since the construction started on April 2014, Cheongju City Art Museum opened with its vision "Cheongju, happy with visible art culture" and became the wings of cultural arts city on July 1.
Old KBS Cheongju office in Sajik-dong was remodelled and reborn as Cheongju City Art Museum on 9134㎡. floor area of 4910㎡ with exhibition, experience and education facility such as exhibition room, storage, education room, information data room in 1 underground and 4 ground floors.
With Daecheongho Art Gallery(opened in 2004) which is famous for art walking trail, Cheongju Art Creative Studio(opened in 2007) supporting artist activity and providing civil art education, and Ochang Gallery which was opened on last July 2 became the art gallery system in 3 annexes.
Un the future, the museum is planning to propose differentiated future of museum by specialized space of museum including 3 annexes and 62 exhibitions in 2017, and the museum will provide public education service for cultural communication by running public participation education program for approximately 50 times.

Park Cheol Wan, the head of department of cultural arts of Cheongju-si said "In order to actualize the global life culture city, Cheongju, the city will put its effort to improve quality of lives of the pople with various cultural arts program".
