The Cheongju Baekje History Museum was built on Historical Site 319, the Ancient Tombs in Sinbong-dong, Cheongju. The museum was built at the biggest cemetery of the Baekje era in November 2001. A total of six excavations from 1982 to the present discovered three chamber tombs, about 300 pit tombs and coffin tombs, and various burial accessories. During the excavation work, the size and various burial methods of the tombs drew much attention. The burial accessories were evaluated as valuable relics that could reveal the foreign relationships and local governance of the Baekje Kingdom. The museum displays many relics connected to the early history of Cheongju from the Ancient Tombs in Sinbong-dong, Cheongju and tombs from the nearby Songjeol-dong, Bongmyeong-dong, Myeongam-dong and Gagyeong-dong, as well as from Songdae-ri and Juseong-ri of Ochang-eup. Moreover, recreated articles such as a grave digging process, statues of horse riding, foot soldiers, and farmer, a the construction process of the Earthen Fortification in Jeongbuk-dong, Cheongju, and a house site in Sinbong-dong help visitors understand their histories better.
