Title Simplified car inspection service — receive an inspection without a vehicle registration certificate!
Writer Cheongju
Subject Cheongju City announced that submitting the vehicle registration certificate for vehicle inspections has been abolished according to the revised Motor Vehicle Management Act enacted on October 14, 2021.

Previously, vehicle owners had to submit the vehicle registration certificate to be eligible for regular vehicle inspections. In the 6th Regulation Innovation Deliberation Council held by the government, the said requirement was abolished in order to promote the convenience of citizens.

Mandatory regular vehicle inspections must be conducted every two years (four years for the first inspection) for non-commercial vehicles, every year for commercial vehicles (two years for the first inspection) and every year or every six months for passenger and freight vehicles depending on the vehicle model and age.

Meanwhile, according to the revised Motor Vehicle Management Act which will take effect on April 14, higher administrative fines will be imposed on vehicles which fail to complete regular (comprehensive) vehicle inspections.

The administrative fine for failure to complete an inspection within 30 days from the due date will increase from KRW 20,000 to KRW 40,000, and the daily surcharge that is applied every three days from the 31st day will increase from KRW 10,000 to KRW 20,000.

An official from the city government said, “Vehicles can threaten lives of drivers as well as lives and properties of others. We urge everyone to make sure their vehicle inspections are completed to create save traffic environments.”
