Cheong City imposed KRW 26.3 billion in automobile taxes for 202,098 vehicles for December. It went up KRW 1.5 billion with 7,376 vehicles compared to the previous year.
A vehicle owner registered in the vehicle registry as of December 1, 2021 is obliged to pay automobile taxes. The subjects of taxation include automobiles and two-wheeled vehicles registered and reported under the Motor Vehicle Management Act and dump trucks and concrete mixer trucks registered under the Construction Machinery Management Act. Vehicles that already paid automobile taxes for this year in advance and those with annual taxes of less than KRW 100,000 paid by June this year are excluded. The automobile taxes are due by December 31, 2021 and can be paid through Wetax, e-Giro, virtual accounts, local tax accounts, ARS at each gu office (Sangdang-gu +82-43-201-5000, Seowon-gu +82-43-201-6000, Heungdeok-gu +82-43-201-7000 and Cheongwon-gu +82-43-201-8000), Integrated Tax ARS Easy Pay Service (+82-43-201-7942), or CD/ATM machines in banks. A spokesperson of Cheongju City said, “If vehicle owners fail to pay the automobile taxes on time, they will have to pay an additional penalty (3%) and may receive disadvantages for nonpayment, such as having your license plate removed.
