Promotion of Resident Reporting System for Eradication of Illegal Parking and Stopping
Cheongju has implemented a resident reporting system (Safety report APP) since April 17 to fully eradicate illegal parking and stopping in four major areas to prohibit illegal parking and stopping. Four major areas of prohibiting illegal parking and stopping are centered around fire extinguishing facilities such as fire hydrants (within 5 meters), corners of intersections (within 5 meters), in front of bus stops (within 10 meters of bus stops) and crosswalks. Fines for parking in these areas are subject to a KRW 40,000 fine and particularly, in the case of parking in front of fire hydrants, the fine amounts to KRW 80,000 as of August 1. Four months into the introduction of the resident reporting system, the monthly number of reports has been increasing. The monthly imposition of fines in Cheongju totaled 628 in April, 2,267 in May, 2,587 in June and 2,596 in July. Cheongju is actively planning to reinforce citizen awareness on illegal parking and traffic order through implementation of the campaign for settlement of a proper parking culture and citizen clampdown in areas that Cheongju considers still lacks awareness on illegal parking and safety.
