What is an urban-type transportation model bus?
The urban-type transportation model is a project that provides mid-to-small-sized buses, which are forms of public buses, to regions that lack transportation, such as farming and fishing villages or urban-rural complex areas. The project was reflected in the measures for enhancing the public availability and safety of buses announced by the government last year on December 27.

In preparation for the adjustment of services for some existing route buses following the 52-hour week for route buses that will be implemented by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) this July, this project provides funding to purchase vehicles and operating expenses to 78 cities, including Cheongju City, in order to ensure that there are no blind spots in public transportation and to guarantee the right of mobility for residents living in regions that are in danger of lacking transportation.

Service for 6 Government-funded Agencies in OsongBiovalley and Resident Companies

Cheongju City established the urban-type transportation model (public-type bus) service plan in order to guarantee the right of mobility for the 6 government-funded agencies and resident companies within OsongBiovalley, which lacks public transportation, as well as the residents living in small villages and towns (Yeonje-ri, Mansu-ri, Ssangcheong-ri, Hogye-ri, Sangjang-ri, and Gongbuk-ri in Osong-eup) in the vicinity of the industrial complex, as well as to improve the accessibility and use of public transportation in line with the steady increase of visitors and students to OsongBiovalley.

※ 6 Government-fundedAgencies: Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (KCDC), Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), National Institute of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation, Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health & Welfare (KOHI), and National Institute of Health (NIH)

Due to government-funded agencies such as the Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (KCDC) having moved into the Osong Health Technology Administration Complex, which is the target region of the project, approximately 4,000 people work in OsongBiovalley. As of now, 62 companies have moved into the industrial complex and are currently operating, and 6 more companies are currently being built.

Scheduled to Begin Operation with 2 Buses (Capacity: 25) in July

The city aims to begin operation of the urban-type transportation model in July, which is when the Osong Station bus transit center is scheduled to finish construction, and will be operated in a route format that sets off at Osong Station and circles to OsongBiovalley and back.

The units to be operated are 2 mid-sized buses (capacity: 25) that will run approximately 38 times a day (interval: 25 minutes), with 1 run of a route being 15.3km (approximately 40 minutes). The fare for the buses has been set at KRW 1,300 (KRW 1,200 when using a transportation card) for an adult, which is equivalent to the fare for city buses.

Securing the Right of Mobility for Residents in Regions Lacking Public Transportation

A city official stated, “We hope that by operating urban-type transportation model buses that link Osong Station to OsongBiovalley, entrepreneurs and employees in the industrial complex can have increased transportation convenience and that the enhancement of linked public transportation for residents of villages in the vicinity of the industrial complex will guarantee accessibility to actual life zones (commute and commercial districts, use of convenience facilities).”
