Title Cheongju-si Completes Construction of Urban Forest
Writer Parks & Forests Division
Subject - Planted 5322 Trees in the Public Open Space by the Roadside of Ochang Industrial Complex –

Cheongju-si has completed the construction of an urban forest to protect the citizens from highly concentrated fine dust and the summer heat wave, and improve the urban landscape.

An urban forest is not only the most natural and effective way to resolve air pollution, including fine dust, but also has the effect of mitigating urban climate, reducing noise, providing resting spaces, and fostering emotions.
In particular, it is effective in blocking or removing fine dust from automobiles, which is one of the major emission causes of fine dust. If you look at the trees, the minute structures of stems, branches, and leaves hold onto fine dust, which get washed away when it rains.
Furthermore, trees breathe through the small holes on their leaves, and in this process they absorb and remove polluting gases.

A total of KRW 450 million was invested into building the urban forest in an area of 7789㎡ on a public open space by the roadside of Ochang Scientific Industrial Complex.
The city removed the existing pavement and planted 5322 trees and 3330 wildflowers, which have rich shades of green and blooming flowers for each season.
In particular, a pine tree forest was built to form an urban landscape befitting the status of the integrated Cheongju-si.

A city official said, “The Urban Green Project, such as the urban forest, is the optimized alternative to respond to serious fine dust problems and climate changes, and we will implement it in various ways to try even harder to improve the citizens‘ health and qualities of living environment.”
