Cheongju-si’spublic health centers will be providing free checkups for diabetic complications for Cheongju citizens who have been classified as suffering from chronic conditions. As diabetes may lead to diabetic retinopathy and the loss of kidney functions, patients must receive checkups once a year and take care of their health to ensure that it does not lead to complications. The 4 public health centers in Cheongju-si provided examinations for diabetic complications to 1,000 residents last year at no cost, and will be providing applicants with free checkups this year as well. Patients who meet the requirements for the checkups are those who are a) registered as having diabetes or high blood pressure and b) have their home addresses set as Cheongju in their resident registration records. Utmost priority is given to those who are afflicted with both diabetes and high blood pressure, followed by those with diabetes, and finally those with high blood pressure. The checkup fields are fundoscopy, intraocular pressure tests, and renal function tests. Citizens who wish to apply can do so by visiting the competent public health center with their ID card, filling out an application form, and then visiting and receiving a checkup at a contracted medical institution.
