Future Heritage of Cheongju refers to tangible or intangible legacies that convey stories or people experienced or remembered by many citizens in modern Cheongju worth passing on to the future generation. Sudong Catholic Church, the old official residence of the mayor, Samil Park, Deokchon-ri Town, and Midongsan Arboretum are newly designated as future heritage. The city listed sites that embody citizens’ stories, places, or sceneries and selected five heritages through experts’ review and owners’ consent. Now there are 28 Cheongju Future Heritage in total. Last year, Cheongju received 139 recommendations on places, sites, or sceneries with Cheongju’s stories worth passing on to future generations. 23 Future Heritage of Cheongju are selected through experts’ review and owners’ consent. A city official of Cheongju said in an interview: “Cheongju will further develop sites that embody citizens’ stories, places, or sceneries and include them in Future Heritage of Cheongju.” The city government also produced and presented signboards to promote the newly included Future Heritage of Cheongju last year and to enhance owners’ pride. In addition, the city held a photo exhibition of Cheongju Future Heritage to award 32 works among 123 submitted pieces. |
