Subject - Smart tourism app “Cheongju Here” driving the future of tourism in Cheongju

Cheongju City held a launching ceremony for the 'Smart Tourism City Project' at Dongbu Warehouse 6 on Jul. 3.

The event was attended by Cheongju Mayor Lee Beom-Seog, Cheongju City Council Chairman Lee Byeong-guk, city council members, Korea Tourism Organization Vice President Lee Jae-hwan, and members of the “Digilog City Cheongju Consortium,” which promoted the project.

The ceremony consisted of a report on the progress of the project, a screening of a “Cheongju Here” app promotional video and demonstration, and a touch button ceremony to commemorate the launch of the Smart Tourism City Project.

The “Smart Tourism City Project” was jointly promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, and aims to integrate ICT into existing tourist destinations to provide smart tourism services in various fields such as information, transportation, and shopping.

Cheongju City won the business competition in March 2022. Furthermore, in June 2022, the city signed an MOU with the Korea Tourism Organization and Chungcheongbuk-do to successfully promote the project, and in July of the same year, the project kicked off with the “Digilog City Cheongju Consortium.”

After about a year of development, Cheongju completed a smart tourism app called “Cheongju Here” and showcased it at the launching ceremony.

“Cheongju Here” provides a range of smart features for tourists to enjoy fun and convenient tours in Cheongju.

It offers convenience features such as customized sightseeing course recommendations; smart reservations and payments for restaurants, cafés, and accommodations; smart taxi booking; real-time bus and flight information; and access to content such as AR and VR services, videos, and travel essays.

In addition, a “Digilog Book” feature allows users to edit photos taken during the trip and put them together as an actual photo book to help tourists visiting Cheongju record and recollect their trip.

“Cheongju Here” will be available for download on Google Play from Jul. 3, and iPhone users will be able to download it from App Store in mid-July.

An official of Cheongju said, "In addition to the app development project, the overall tourism infrastructure was created, including the establishment of a big data platform, the creation of a public Wi-Fi zone, and the installation of tourist kiosks. We will strive in various ways so that the scalability and connectivity of “Cheongju Here” can be further advanced in the future.
