Cheongju City announced the opening of a smart library at Gangseo 2-dong Community Service Center where citizens can easily borrow books anytime. The smart library is an unstaffed library that provides 24/7 book borrowing and return services even during holidays. It has over 300 popular books, including new releases, best sellers, and steady sellers. Patrons can check out up to 2 books for 10 days at a time. Borrowed books can only be returned on the device inside the library. There is also an inter-library rental service that allows you to request books from other libraries if the library you visited does not have what you are looking for. An official of Cheongju said, "There was no public library in Gangseo 2-dong, but this easily accessible smart library is expected to contribute to expanding reading opportunities for the local residents. We will make further efforts to improve the user satisfaction and quench their thirst for reading." Cheongju currently operates smart libraries in four locations, including Heungdeok Health Center, Nonghyup Logistics Center, Seonghwa Gaesin Jungnim-dong Community Service Center, and Yulbong Park, and is available to anyone who has a membership of the Cheongju City Library. |
