Title Cheongju City to Spur Its Effort for Separation of Bike Lanes and Walking Trails Along Musimcheon Stream
Writer Cheongju
Subject - Separating bike lanes and walking trails for the safety of citizens visiting Musimcheon Stream
- Aiming to complete the construction within this year which started in 2019

On Jun. 5, Cheongju City announced its plan to complete the project to separate bike lanes and walking trails along Musimcheon Stream within this year.

The 10.6 km-long section from the Jangpyeonggyo Bridge of Musimcheon to the Kkachinaegyo Bridge is one of the most popular places visited by citizens as there are bike lanes and walking paths side by side.

However, except for the 3.1 km-long section from the Je 2 Uncheongyo Bridge to the Kkachinaegyo Bridge, bike routes and sidewalks are not separated in the rest of the sections (7.5 km from the Jangpyeonggyo Bridge to the Je 2 Uncheongyo Bridge). For this reason, the risk of safety accidents that might occur to citizens walking along Musimcheon Stream has been pointed out by many.

In response, Cheongju has invested KRW 3 billion and has been carrying out the project since 2019 to keep bike lanes and sidewalks at least 1 m apart from each other.

As of May, the separation work has been completed in the 6.4 km-long section out of the 7.5 km-long section of the entire project. The remaining 1.1 km-long section between Sports Park and the Heungdeokdaegyo Bridge will be completed by the end of this year.

An official of Cheongju stated, “After the separation is completed, citizens will be able to enjoy leisure without worrying about the risk of a crash. We will put our best efforts to make Musimcheon Stream joyful and refreshing.”
