Cheongju City will operate the incentive payment-type comprehensive environment app “Throwaway Time” starting on the 8th for the first time in the country.
Throwaway Time provides information on waste collection time and proper disposal methods through the Cheongju Pay app in an easy and fun way, with various incentives (e.g. Cheongju Pay, giveaway event) for its users. If you enter your address in the app, you can check the items and times of collection, disposal methods, and nearby recyclables collection companies within 100m from your address. The location and hours of resource circulation stores are also provided so that citizens can sell their recyclables. In addition, the virtual currency Cheongju Coin (KRW 50 each) are provided for environmental participation such as solving environment-related quiz and watching environmental education videos. Cheongju Coins' can be exchanged for Cheongju Pay or for applying for the giveaway. Previously, Cheongju City received KRW 15 million from local companies LG Energy Solutions and Ecopro to create an environmental ecosystem that moves away from government-based environmental policies to a company/resident participatory system, where incentives will be given to citizens participating in environmental practices through Throwaway Time. A city official stated, “We will develop an application that improves civic awareness of environmental issues and increase recycling rates. We will also establish a virtuous cycle that provides incentives for active promotion of cleaning policies and resident participation to increase recycling,” and added, “We ask for our citizens' active participation and interest to create clean Cheongju.” |
