Cheongju City is taking big steps towards providing stable supply of clean and healthy tap water. The City is going all out to build a stable tap water supply system as follows: △ Establish an integrated water purification plant, △ Begin construction of Jibuk Service Reservoir, △ Push forward the business of expanding the Yulryang Service Reservoir △ Push forward the business of installing advanced water treatment facilities △ Finalize the construction work of the general industrial complex of Technopolis for supplying stable internal industrial water, and △ Build a rapid recovery system in preparation of possible damages in the pipeline and immediately mobilize water wagon in case of water shut-off. ◆ Advanced Water Treatment Facilities for the Production and Supply of Quality Tap Water The Cheongju City Waterworks Office will finalize the installment business of advanced water treatment facilities that has been pushed forward since 2015, which was conceived to perfectly do away with the disagreeable taste and smell of Daecheongho Lake algal bloom worsening every year. A trial run will be conducted for 4 months from January 2018 so that even if algal bloom occurs next year, the advanced water treatment facilities will be run to get rid of the odor- and taste-causing materials of algal bloom. ◆ Expand Industrial Water Supply The City is consulting closely with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) to secure the allocated amount of industrial water demanded by the new factories of SK hynix and in order to meet the supply demands of industrial water by the end of March 2018, it has finished the pipeline design and is in the process of construction after having chosen the construction company. To fulfill the time for supply, construction will be carried out even in the winter times so that industrial water pipe arrangements will be built before the completion of the cutting-edge semiconductor factory of SK hynix, to avoid obstructing the production activity. ◆ Build Recovery System for the Very Day and Tap Water Emergency Supply System in case of Water Shut-off Accidents The city is being completely prepared by building tap water emergency supply system such as strengthening the contact system between water leak repair companies to minimize the shut-off time when tap water is shut off due to unexpected accidents such as water shut-off caused by waterworks construction and other excavation works, mobilizing emergency water wagons and immediately giving support with water bottles when water is shut off. Also, the city is minimizing the inconveniences of its citizens by not allowing any room for future water cut-offs through replacement of old pipes, prior notice of waterworks pipeline construction and adoption of branching method and a definite implementation of water cut-off with prior announcements when water cut-off is inevitable. ◆ Organize Water Supply System for Stable Tap Water Supply Construction of Jibuk Service Reservoir (scale of 20,000 t), which commenced June this year and aimed to be completed at the end of 2019, will contribute to the tap water supply in the southern region due to the land development of Bangseo District and Dongnam district. Also, the expansion project of the Yulryang Service Reservoir (scale of 10,000 t), which will begin its construction March next year and aims to be completed in March 2020, will respond to the developmental demands in the Northern region, organize the water supply system to meet the demands for Technopolis, Millenium Town, and Naesu Region, and enhance the satisfaction of consumers with the effects of improving water pressure. ◆ Fulfill Water Welfare with Expanded Supply of Domestic Water in the Farming and Fishing Villages Gadeok-myeon, Namil-myeon, and Kangne-myeon have been made possible to stabilize the tap water supply by investing total business expenses of KRW 15.5 billion in the farming and fishing regions suffering from a shortage of domestic water supply due to water pollution and depletion, by completing domestic water development businesses in the farming and fishing villages, with the building of service reservoirs and laying the water pipes and drains. Starting from 2018, the city will concentrate its energy on fulfilling its water welfare by pushing forward new development businesses of domestic water in the farming and fishing villages with an investment of KRW 28.4 billion to expand waterworks facilities in Nangseong, Miwon, and Nami-myeon to supply tap water in the rural regions where metropolitan waterworks are not provided. ◆ Replace Old Pipelines This year, the city is replacing 7.01km of pipelines, which are over 30 years old, in the nine places including the range from Cheongju University Intersection to Naedeokchilgeori. Fromr next year, it will make efforts to improve water flow rate through timely replacement of leaking pipelines, subdivision of leakage management water supply areas, maintenance and management of flow transfer facilities, and flow meter calibration tests. Also, it will rapidly respond to leakage complaints through solving rusty water complaints and improvements of waterworks pipes in the multiple leakage areas as well as working on the improvements of waterworks pipelines in areas where there are problems of inconvenience with water supply. ◆ Supply Clean Quality Water by Improvements on Old Pipes of Small-scale Water Supply Plant The city has pushed forward and completed the replacement of pipelines and development of tube well by injecting KRW 1.192 billion worth of total business expenses to supply clean water in the non-provided areas of Metropolitan waterworks, which are the five villages in addition to Jungsin-ri, Ochang-eup. For the one village other than Yongbak-gol, Yongam-dong with increased demand in water supply, it is pushing ahead with construction of more water tanks so that its citizens do not experience any inconveniences. The Director Lee Beom-su of the Waterworks Headquarters said, “We will do our best to supply safe tap water so that we could confidently say, ’The Cheongju city Waterworks Headquarters is making clean water, healthy water.’“ He also added, “We will make every effort possible not to neglect any citizen of water supply through the projects of expanding water supply area actively and pushing forward with replacement projects of old pipes.” ▶ For more info: Waterworks Headquarters Facility Division Waterworks Team (☏201-4511) |
