Subject - Operation of Park Usage Program, Construction of Munam Ecology Park, etc. –

Cheongju City is developing and operating diverse programs for parks, which played roles of blank space in the city and green spaces, into order to give them a new life as spaces of healing and recreation.
The plan for this year is to create a cultural resting space with lots of things to see and enjoy throughout all 4 seasons by implementing the following: ▲ Eco-experience Program Told by a Forest Interpreter, ▲ Citizen Participation City Adoption Project, ▲ Prestigious Park Creation Project of the Munam Ecology Park, and other programs.

▶ Operation of Forest Interpretation Eco-experience Program
In consideration of the importance of ecology education, a forest interpretation program experienced inside a forest will be operated for free.
Four forest interpreters will host the program twice a day every Monday to Friday at the Old Sangdangsanseong Fortress Trail, Munam Ecology Park, and Solbat Park.
This year, the program will be operated in various ways, including explanations on natural environment, experience using objects from nature, insect classes, culture & history storytelling, and more.

▶ Weekend Event ‘Let’s Play at the Park’
Cultural performances and family experience programs will be operated to provide citizens visiting Munam Ecology Park during the weekends with a more satisfactory experience, and to ensure that the parks are reborn as cultural spaces.
Every month, themed cultural performances such as balloon art shows, magic shows, park concerts, humanities lectures, and talk concerts will be held. Furthermore, starting from this April, the weekend event ‘Let’s Play at the Park’ performance will be held every month to grant people time for healing and recreation.

▶ Operation of Children’s Pool During the Summer
A space for water pool that can be enjoyed for free will be built inside Munam Ecology Park to prepare a resting space for summers.
Rides and facilities that visitors can actually experience, such as mini pools, water slides, and pedal boats will be built. This year, the scale of the facilities will be expanded from that of last year’s pilot operation.

▶ Implementation to Revitalize Campgrounds inside Munam Ecology Park
The campgrounds, which had been operated for free since 2010, will become pay-to-use grounds from January this year so that it can be operated better and more convenient for campers to use. The profits earned from the campgrounds will continuously be reinvested into the campgrounds and their facilities.
The price for using the campgrounds will be KRW 8,000 per day (based on 2 days and 1 night) during the weekdays, and KRW 10,000 during the weekends regardless of whether it is a peak season or off-season. Electricity is provided for free.
You can make reservations for the campgrounds through the website (http://munam.cheongju.go.kr/). The campgrounds are equipped with 28 decks and bathrooms, shower rooms, water fountains, electrical facilities, and other convenient facilities. In connection with Munam Ecology Park (approximately 200,000㎡), it is the optimal nature-friendly family leisure space where you can enjoy camping in harmony with nature.

▶ Implementation of Citizen Participation City Park Adoption Project
Unlike passive volunteer activities, City Park Adoption Project is a volunteer activity program in which participants manage the park autonomously in accordance with the activity plans created by the participants themselves.
A total of 74 parks are the targets of the City Park Adoption Project, including Jungang Park, and anybody can adopt the park that they desire. The City Park Adoption Project can be applied for at any time by any Cheongju citizen or group through the Cheongju City website (www.cheongju.go.kr).

▶ Creation of Munam Ecology Park as a Prestige Park
In order to turn Munam Ecology Park, the representative park of Cheongju City, into a prestige park, various projects will be carried out, including the construction of children’s playgrounds, installation of shade canopies, installation of
elastic pavements in the park and repair of facilities, maintenance of floors in the artificial falls and installation of lightings, and planting of landscape trees. A total of KRW 1,110,910,000 will be spent for this project.

▶ Creation of Flower Gardens in Munam Ecology Park and Ochang Miraeji Theme Park
Flower gardens will be built in Munam Ecology Park and Ochang Miraeji Theme Park to present beautiful scenery to citizens and holidaymakers visiting the parks in the coming spring.
In the 3305㎡ of Munam Ecology Park, 80,000 tulip bulbs were planted, and in the 6605㎡ of Ochang Miraeji Theme Park, Papaver rhoeas, green barleys, and rapeseed flowers were planted.
Last spring, 1 million tulips were planted in Munam Ecology Park, and zinnias were planted in fall, winning the love and attention of the citizens.

A city official said, “We will do our best to make an attractive park that citizens will want to visit, play, and enjoy in by continuously developing various park usage programs in the future.”
