Subject Cheongju-si opens a Special Exhibition for Jikji Metal Type in this June

- From 1st, June to 31th August in Cheongju Early Printing Museum-

Cheongju-si is going to open the Special Exhibition for Jikji Metal Type in the project gallery in the 2nd floor of the main building in Early Printing Museum from 1st, June to 31th August.

This exhibition is going to held under the theme of the invention of metal type printing technique in Goryeo Dynasty and birthㆍjourneyㆍrevival of Jikji, focusing on 78 metal type plates of 'Jikji' Volume oneㆍtwo, by investing 1.8 billion won (including national and elusive) from 2011 to 2015 by Cheongju city.

Cheongju Early Printing Museum exhibits Jikji(the restored version), collection of commentaries of Jabidoryang chambeop, bibliography of Joseon, certificate of UNESCO world record heritage and materials related to restoring of Jikji metal type.

In particular, the outcome will be shared by exhibiting the restoring process of Jikji Metal Type and the research report of arrangement, image materials, withdrawal model of the restoring technology and make it as a opportunity to promote 'Jikji' which is the representative cultural heritage either at home and abroad.

In addition, after the end of this exhibition, this place is going to be permanently operated as 'Jikji room' and it is expected to be utilized as excellent cultural tourism resources in Cheongju.

The exhibition consists of three parts, and in the introduction, the background of the beginning of the metal type printing technology will be introduced through the situation of foreign cultural exchange, and literature materials related to the metal type printing of Goryeo will be introduced.

Section 1, 'birth' is going to introduce the process which 'Jikji' is published in Heungdeoksa, Cheongjumok in 1377. 'Jikji' was published by donations of Seokchan who was the literary person of the author, Baekunhwasang Kyeonghan monk, Daljam and buddhist nun, Myodeok, and it is recorded in the end of a volume of 'Jikji'.

Section 2 'journey' is going to introduce the process of 'Jikji' which was handed down to the Joseon Dynasty by the end of 19th century, collected by Kkolrang de-ppeulrangsi and possessed by the French National Library through photos, images, and the French National Library

Section 3 'revival' is going to show the excavation of Heungdeoksaji and the restoring process of 'Jikji' metal type which revived just after 638 years with image materials vividly.

In addition, the exhibition is going to be configured to leave a deep impression of 'Jikji' to audiences by exhibiting 78 plates of the first and second volumes of 'Jikji' metal type as if types are arranged in a book.

This exhibition will be an opportunity to give a sense of pride by reminding the value of 'Jikji' to audiences who visits Early Printing Museum. In addition, it is going to bring the effect of promoting 'Jikji Korea International Festival' which is going to be held in 1st September in advance.
