Amid the recent expansion of the use of drones to cutting edge technologies in the military and to leisure activities, a drone festival will be held in Choongbuk University. Cheongju City announced that 2016 drone festival, 'the Festival of Model Aircrafts and Drones' will be held cosponsored by Cheongju City and Cheongju MBC in the main stadium of Choongbuk University on May 7th ~ 8th. This event will be supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Public Safety and Security and will have 60 booths and 20 domestic and overseas companies as participants. It will display recent drones including state-of-the-art domestic military drones and toy-leisure drones. Also, with the demonstration of experts for fire protection and lifesaving, it will increase interest in drones and expand the base for its use, and the direction for developing drone industry will be suggested. The most outstanding feature of the event is drone photo contest to promote tourist destinations of Cheongju City. The aerial photographs of major tourist destinations including Cheongnamdae, Sangdangsansung, Daecheongho, and Okhwagugyung will be taken, evaluated, and great photos will be selected. Also, by hosting competitions for model aircrafts and drone races among elementary, middle school, and high school students, the event will attract families to visit Cheongju City.
