Cheongju International Craft Biennale began in 1999 and since then, has been held every two years in and around the Cheongju Culture & Art Center. The event provides an outlook for the present and the future of crafts by covering not only all areas of contemporary crafts but traditional and industrial crafts and suggest a new vision of crafts.
The festival succeeds a historical line of connection to Jikji simche yojeol, the first book printed with metal types and suggests new directions for the world’s craft culture and promote the craft industry.
The festival also exhibits works of craftsmen who were invited to international craft contests and attracts a craft industry hall in an effort to develop the craft industry. The Ministry of Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism officially give financial support to the festival.
