Subject - Agreement reached with Santa Rita City in the Philippines to address the rural labor shortage -

Cheongju City collaborates with overseas cities to address the rural labor shortage.

On February 8th at the Jikji Room in the temporary government building, Cheongju City officially inked an agreement with the Philippine city of Santa Rita to recruit seasonal foreign workers.

The signing ceremony was attended by Cheongju Mayor Lee Bum-seok, Philippine Santa Rita Mayor Arthur Lansang Salaila, Deputy Mayor Mercedita Benaobra Carreon, and Santa Rita City Council members.

On the basis of trust and equality, the two cities agreed to collaborate in order to recruit and dispatch foreign seasonal workers in the agricultural sector.

Cheogju City is attempting to recruit foreign seasonal workers to address the increasingly challenging agricultural environment, including rising labor costs and agricultural material prices, as well as labor shortages in rural areas.

Following the conclusion of an agreement with Saiseta, Laos, Cheongju City is currently recruiting seasonal workers.

"We will expand international agreements that legally address labor shortages in rural areas," said a city official. "We hope that this will result in an increase in agricultural output and income for local farmers.”
