Do you enjoy leisure at night in Cheongju these days?

As Cheongju's all-out efforts to make a fun and happy city, a core pledge of the 8th local government elected by popular vote, are picking up full speed, the city is now focusing on creating a fun and attractive Cheongju even at night.

The local government plans to implement romantic and unique night view projects across the city to refine the city’s landscape and provide citizens with various attractions and enjoyable activities.

The city has previously completed night view projects at Chojeong Haenggung, Organic Marketing Center, Osong Lake Park, and Musimcheon Stream Walk. It will continue to carry out night view projects at Sangdangsanseong Fortress, Musimcheon Stream Seomungyo Bridge, Cheongnamgyo Bridge, Heungdeokdaegyo Bridge, and Myeongam Recreation Area.

The antiquity and beauty of Sangdangsanseong Fortress never goes away, even at night!

The city is planning to push ahead with the Sangdangsanseong Fortress Night View Project to promote the excellence and uniqueness of Sangdangsanseong Fortress, one of the iconic tourist destinations in the region, and to allow citizens to enjoy a leisurely stroll at night.

The project will cost 1.3 billion won in special grant taxes, and media facades and indirect lighting will be installed on the south gate, walk, and ramparts of Sangdangsanseong Fortress.

Starting with the layout design in November, the project is scheduled to complete the installation in August next year.

In addition, the installation of street lights, landscape lights, and floodlights on the access road (Sansung Intersection - Sansung Village Entrance) will be completed by next year in conjunction with the ongoing Sangdangsanseong Ramp Expansion Project.

By concurrently proceeding with the ramp expansion and the installation of lighting, the city plans to enhance the safety of mountain tourists and the attractions at the same time.

▶ Installation of night lighting at Musimcheon Stream, Seomungyo Bridge, Cheongnamgyo Bridge, Heungdeok-daegyo Bridge, Bunpyeong-dong, and Yongpyeonggyo Bridge

The city will install various lightings such as media facades and handrail lights on the Mushimcheon Stream and bridges that cross the city center - Seomun, Cheongnam and Heungdeok.

The project, with a KRW 3.8 billion investment, will be carried out in a step-by-step approach until its completion in 2026.

The city expects this project to add uniqueness to each bridge, breaking away from the somewhat dull image of the city by striving to create a lively night view.

In addition, the city will invest 300 million won in a special adjustment grant to install lights across Yongpyeong Bridge in Bunpyeong-dong to create a safe and comfortable pedestrian environment.

Meanwhile, the city installed landscape lighting such as laser lights, floodlights, high-illumination lights, moon and rabbit shaped lights, on Cheongnam Bridge and Mochung Bridge in March, the cherry blossom season, to provide more spectacle flower-viewing, and received enthusiastic feedback from tourists.
Moreover, floor landscape lighting was installed on the 2.5-kilometer trail between Jangpyeonggyo Bridge and Suyeonggyo Bridge in Musimcheon Stream to provide attractions for strollers at night and to prevent safety accidents.
▶ Cheongju City's Night View Theme Park Project kicked off! The project first lights up Myeongam Recreation Area.

The city will invest KRW 100 million in installing outdoor night lights, such as floor lights, step lights, and deck area point lights on the decking path (barrier-free path, 670 meters) along the water at Myungam Resort.

This project is part of the Cheongju City’s Night View Theme Park, a project to transform daytime tourist attractions into a nighttime spectacle, creating a garden and gallery illuminated by beautiful lightings.

Meanwhile, Cheongju City’s Night View Theme Park Project will be carried out by stages (2024 - 2026) with a total investment of KRW 1.9 billion in five major tourist attractions in Cheongju City (Sangdang Sanseong Fortress, Myeongam Resort, Jungang-Uncheon Neighborhood, and Munam Ecological Park).

Next year, outdoor lights will be selected considering the harmony with each place and installed at Myeongam Recreation Area, followed by Jungang-Uncheon Neighborhood Park in 2025, and Munam Ecological Park in 2026.
Initially, the city intends to begin with low-cost lighting and then progressively develop high-quality storytelling content, including media art.

▶ Cheongju’s festival nights get more exciting with the cultural heritage night trip!

The festivals in Cheongju, which were successfully held this year, shone brighter at night than during the day thanks to the night landscape lighting.

At Chojung Hanggung Palace, where King Sejong the Great and the Chojung Yaksu Festival are held, fences, ponds, and walks were giving off soft lights while the Urban Agriculture Festival installed lights at the Organic Marketing Center.
In particular, the Cheongju cultural heritage night tour attracted over 70,000 visitors, drawn to see the array of lights in various designs and colors installed around the cultural heritage sites in Central Park

▶The beautiful night view created by lights along public walkways brings joy to everyday life!

A project is underway to create a romantic street in Gagyeongcheon Stream, a go-to spot for many citizens.

The city plans to complete the creation of walks and installation of night landscape lighting (string lights, firefly shaped lights) along Gagyeongcheon (Balsan Bridge - Gagyeong 1 Bridge) by December.

Additionally, Osong Lake Park Plaza was embroidered with tiny and cute lights, creating warm and cozy atmosphere around the plaza.

The Ochang Green Samji Forest Park in Guryong-ri, Ochang-eup, will also install special landscape lighting before the year ends.

Also, by July next year, a 3D LED roundabout sculpture and various lights will be installed along a 140-meter stretch of Daechunghoban-ro (from Dodangsan Intersection to parts of Daecheonghoban-ro) in Muneui-myeon, designed to catch the attention of citizens.
The government has chosen to fund a project to create the night landscape along the Geumgang River in Haseok-ri, Mountain 137, Hyeondo-myeon. Scheduled to open in the first half of next year, this project will allow visitors to experience the beauty of the Nurigil deck lights.

The city will install night landscape lighting in parallel with the Namju Namun-ro wedding street project, which is scheduled to be completed in June next year.
In addition, lights will be installed by next year on the night street of Seongan-gil by investing 98 million won.

A city official said, “our goal is to transform the fun and exciting Cheongju space into a 'city of beautiful nights,' offering healing experiences for residents and new attractions for tourists. To ensure sufficient funding, we are actively considering participation in relevant government-funded project competitions and seeking private investment.”
