- Smart platforms at transit hubs, integrated transit system, and route map maintenance Cheongju City announced that it will reorganize its bus system from Dec. 9 with the goal of making it easier for citizens to move around the entire city by bus The reorganization of the bus system will not only adjust routes, but also improve bus facilities, strengthen the bus route information delivery system, and establish an integrated transit system with neighboring metropolitan local governments. With the introduction of a mainline bus system that moves between areas and a branch bus system that connects areas and transit stations, three transit stations will be equipped with smart platforms providing life amenities. Smart platforms, which are facilities introduced to minimize citizen inconvenience, will be equipped with air conditioners/heaters, WIFI, and surveillance cameras to prevent hate crimes and to ensure that they are not affected by the environment such as outside temperature. The installation sites are Chungbuk Provincial Office, Express Bus Terminal and Culture Manufacturing Center, and the platform at the provisional City Hall Furthermore, an attached route map with improved visibility will be installed for the transportation disadvantaged who have difficulty using bus information terminals. First, temporary route maps will be attached, and once the bus routes are stabilized, the route maps will be officially attached. Along with the confirmation of the new Sejong↔Cheongju (Seokgok Intersection)↔Express Bus Terminal route, an integrated transfer system with Cheongju, Sejong, Daejeon, and Gongju, which has been requested by many, will be introduced. It is expected that it will be convenient to visit national institutions that have relocated to Sejong, and the financial burden will also be resolved. A city official said, “With the reorganization of the bus system, Cheongju will become an advanced transportation welfare city and leap forward to become a city with a leading public transportation system along with Seoul.” “We hope that citizens will actively participate in the reorganization of the route system with the mindset of sharing with their neighbors to build a bus system that all citizens can enjoy,” he said. Meanwhile, Cheongju City is promoting a service to reorganize city bus routes to reflect transportation demand and traffic patterns due to changes in urban space structure after the implementation of the first quasi-private bus system in 2021 among basic local governments nationwide. The key reorganization points are introduction of a branch line and trunk line system; new and expanded routes in newly developed areas; introduction of a demand-responsive Cheongju Call Bus in eup-myeon areas. The city is accepting opinions on route reorganization through administrative welfare centers in eup-myeon(town/village) areas until Nov. 10. Citizens who have opinions on the route reorganization can freely submit their opinions to the administrative welfare center in the town or village or the Cheongju Public Transportation Division (314, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si). |
