– 9 emergency rooms joining the operation – The Cheongju Community Health Center announced its plan to operate the monitoring system in emergency rooms for cold-related illness as preemptive measure against severe cold from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024. Seven emergency medical treatment centers (Chungbuk National University Hospital, Cheong Ju Medical Center, Hankook General Hospital, Hyosung Hospital, Cheongju St. Mary’s hospital, Hana General Hospital, and Bestian Hospital) and two hospitals with emergency rooms (Ochang Jungang Hospital and Cheongju Hyundai Hospital) are joining the operation. The city intends to alert the citizens by swift distribution of the information on incidents of the cold-related illness and to minimize the damages and harms due to severe cold weather by encouraging the citizens to take preventive measures. An official from the community health center emphasized, “Cold-related illnesses are likely to cause casualties if dealt inadequately. Citizens need to pay attention to the weather forecast and follow health regulations against severe cold by checking the ‘feels like’ temperature when going out since this year’s winter is expected to be severely cold.” It is crucial to follow health regulations to be protected from the cold-related illness. It is better to stay inside during cold weather, layer over multiple thin clothes or thermal underwear when going out, and warm up the body by wearing a hat, a masks, or gloves. |
