Cheongju completes installation of smart bus stops at local bus transfer hubs
- Installed at three bus stops including Provincial Office, Bus Terminal, and 2nd Provisional City Hall - Equipped with facilities such as Wi-Fi, heated seats, and air purifying system On Jan. 3, Cheongju announced that the city installed smart bus stops with practical facilities at three local bus transfer hubs at: Provincial Office, Bus Terminal, and 2nd Provisional City Hall. The city redesigned the bus route system on Dec. 9, 2023 under the slogan “Convenience for citizens, connecting all areas with bus.” The reform introduced exclusive bus routes connecting transportation across regions and feeder bus routes connecting the areas and transfer hubs. The city created cozy smart bus stops at three transfer hubs to ease the inconvenience of time spent on transfer derived from the new bus route system. The construction of smart bus stops began in October 2023, was completed in December, costing KRW 220 million. They are equipped with wired/wireless phone charging stations, CCTVs to prevent crimes, Wi-Fi for passengers to use their smartphones without worrying about their data plan, air conditioners and warming seats, bus info devices that tell the arrival of the bus, and weather alert panels that shows air quality status. They also have air-purifying systems that keep the air inside the bus stops fresh through filters. The city installed windscreens in eight bus stops to create a warm environment, including Sachang Sageori and the Dongnam region. They were unsuitable for smart bus stops for various reasons, such as limited spaces. "We physically improved the station's environment so that public transportation passengers will not feel discomfort by changed routes," said a city official of Cheongju. He added, "We will further install smart bus stops and windscreens to facilitate more use of public transportation and improve the environment of the stations." |
