Subject Cheongju Zoo Launches Monorail Service for Wheelchair Users
- Starting in March, Cheongju Zoo a monorail for wheelchair users’ better access
- The reservation began on February 13 through integrated reservation system of Cheongju


Starting in March, Cheongju Zoo will operate a new monorail to enhance accessibility for wheelchair users.

Selected for the "Open Tourism Environment Creation Project" by Korea Tourism Organization, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in October 2021, Cheongju Zoo installed a new monorail.

Funded by a KRW 930 million investment (national budget: KRW 250 million, municipal budget: KRW 680 million), the monorail, completed in May 2023, covers a 227-meter route from the zebra enclosure, located on the left of the entrance of the zoo, to the observatory. In addition to the monorail, the project also includes the construction of dedicated entrances and restrooms for people with disabilities.

They also operate a pair of three-seat vehicles.

The vehicles operate every 10 minutes from 9am to 5pm from March to November.

It features two uphill routes: Route A from Station 1 (zebra enclosure) to Station 2 (tropical house) and Route B from Station 3 (eagle enclosure) to Station 4 (observatory).

Each monorail car can accommodate up to three including one wheelchair user along with a companion and a driver.

To reserve a ride, you can book through integrated reservation system of Cheongju from the first day of the previous month until three days before the desired ride date. The reservation for March rides began on February 13.

A city official of Cheongju said, "We are committed to improving the zoo experience for wheelchair users so that everyone can enjoy the attractions without limitations."
