Cheongju is set to fill the year with uniquely exciting and non-stop festivals, offering no respite from fun.

The mayor of Cheongju, Lee Beom-seog is focusing on creating joyful spaces and hosting fun and exciting events and festivals for the happiness of the citizens.

In March, the Food Truck Festival and the Cheongju Art Festival kick off to coincide with the cherry blossom season. Following in May are the Urban Agriculture Festival and Gardening Festival, June sees the Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Tour, September the Jikji Culture Festival, and October brings the Cheongwon Organic Life Festival, King Sejong and Chojeong Mineral Spring Festival, and the Dessert Bakery Festa, promising fun and unforgettable memories to the citizens.

▶Spring in Cheongju, intoxicated with the scent of flowers and drenched in art!

Musimcheon, which welcomed 450,000 visitors last year, is set to buzz with activity again. The 2nd Cheongju Food Truck Festival will take place along the Musimcheon Cherry Blossom Path from March 22 to 24, 2024.

The festival will tempt those coming to enjoy spring with a variety of foods from 35 food trucks, a flea market for local community support, family-friendly experience booths, soft jazz performances harmonizing with cherry blossoms, busking performances, and EDM DJ parties.

The 21st Cheongju Arts Festival, themed “Cheongju, Falling in Art,” will be held from March 29th to April 2nd at various venues in Cheongju, including the Musimcheon Roller Skating Rink, the Cheongju Arts Center, and the Cheongju Art Hall.

This art festival will feature an architectural photography competition and exhibitions by members of the Cheongju Writers Association and Cheongju Artists Association at the Cheongju Arts Center, various hands-on activities, competitions, and performances at the Musimcheon Roller Skating Rink, and youth dance competition, youth club festival, and elementary school singing contest.

▶ May, the queen of seasons, Cheongju springs to life with art, urban agriculture, and gardening festivals

The 31st Cheongju Ethnic Arts Festival will take place at Munam Ecological Park from May 11 to 12, offering planned exhibitions, plays, dances, folk music, and musical events to create beautiful spring memories for citizens.

The 2024 Cheongju Urban Agriculture Festival will be held at the Cheongju Agriculture Technology Center Organic Complex from May 3 to 6, fostering new culture through the exchange between urban and rural areas.

This year’s event, extended by one day compared to last year, will showcase various urban agriculture-related programs, such as garden plots, the Fabre Insect Exhibition Hall, healing agricultural experiences, direct sales markets for agricultural products, urban agriculture-themed exhibition halls, and a one-pyeong garden decorating competition.

The canola flower field (43,774 m2) along the Musimcheon riverside walkway (next to the Agricultural Technology Center), which was introduced last year and received great interest, will be expanded more than threefold this year to attract public attention.

The 2024 Cheongju Gardening Festival, themed "Come On to my Secret Garden," will be held from May 10 to 12 for three days at the Eastern Warehouse (next to the Culture Factory).

The festival will reveal 22 exhibition gardens by citizens and artists, offer companion plant clinics, pot-making, events and cultural performances, picnic rest areas, and showcase the beautiful gardens of the Eastern Warehouse during both day and night, aiming to touch the hearts of the citizens.

▶ Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Tour returns this June after last year's 70,000 visitors!

Cheongju is set to host its main nighttime cultural event, the 2024 Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Tour, from June 1 to 2 from 6 PM to 11 PM in Cheongju's original downtown area.

Now in its ninth year, the event, previously known as the "Culture Night," will introduce cultural heritage under the theme "Wise (Chungcheong) Military Camp Life" with an array of attractive programs, exhibitions, and performances.

Especially, the Cheongju Cultural Heritage Night Tour has been selected as one of the "K-Culture Travel Events 100 (2024)" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, promising to attract numerous tourists again this year. It will offer a moment to experience the early summer nights and history in the original downtown area of Cheongju.

▶In September, the season of festivals, Cheongju hosts various local festivals including the Jikji Culture Festival.

This fall, the Jikji Culture Festival meets the public with a new transformation. Themed "Jikji, the Flame of Civilization," the 2024 Jikji Culture Festival will take place from September 4th to 8th around the Heungdeok-gu District Ancient Printing Museum area (Jikji Special Culture Zone).

This year, the festival is renamed as a "Culture Festival" and aims to transform into an event that citizens can enjoy together under the new goal of "Fun Play; Jikji Culture Festival."

The festival will significantly expand its experiential events, including a world printing culture experience with demonstrations of Gutenberg’s printing press and hands-on printing, creating my own metal type books, experiencing tea culture from the Goryeo Dynasty, Jikji Cube competitions, Golden Bell events, and more, with over 20 different types of experiences prepared.

During the day, busking performances, K-Culture random play dance, and Jikji rap story contests will be held, while the evening will be enhanced with small concerts, popular singer performances, and family movie screenings. Starting with a special exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Jikji Prize, the festival plans to strengthen its academic aspects with the Jikji Digital Book Citizen Festival School, permanent exhibitions, citizen record exhibitions, and various lectures.

The Cheongju Fortress Grand Festival will be held on September 6th and 7th over two days in Cheongju Jungang Park and Seongan-gil. This citizen participatory historical festival commemorates the historical event when the public and officials cooperated to reclaim Cheongju Fortress, taken by the Japanese forces during the Imjin War in 1592.

▶In October, celebrate the harvest season with the Cheongwon Organic Life Festival, King Sejong, and the Chojeong Mineral Spring Festival!

The Cheongwon Organic Life Festival, which welcomed 620,000 visitors last year, will be held from September 27 to October 6 for ten days at the Miraeji Rural Theme Park in Ochang-eup.

The festival not only promotes and sells the Cheongwon-Life brand but also plays an important role in connecting urban and rural communities through various performances and experiential events.

The 14th Cheongwon Organic Life Festival in 2024, marking the 10th anniversary of Cheongju’s integration, aims to create an exciting urban-rural harmony festival where city dwellers and farmers can mingle. This year, the festival will offer new attractions by adding content to last year’s popular Nakhwanori Fireworks and presenting a special festival where all generations can enjoy a variety of performances created by local artists and citizens.

The 18th King Sejong and Chojeong Mineral Spring Festival will be held for three days from October 11 to 13 around the Chojeong Haenggung Royal Villa area in Naesu-eup, Cheongwon-gu.

The festival, which includes the royal procession, opening ceremony, and Yeongcheon Festival, along with various experiential events such as the Chojeong workshop, King Sejong selfie studio, Chojeong mineral spring food tasting, and the King Sejong and Queen Sohyeon selection contest, received an explosive response last year with 150,000 visitors.

This year, the festival plans to evolve from a local to a national event by discovering new content that embodies the unique characteristics and authenticity of Chojeong mineral spring and organizing the festival with creative and enriching programs that will delight attendees.

▶Trending now! The Dessert & Bakery Festa and Seasonal Original Downtown Alley Festival!

After last year's success with 50,000 participants, the 2nd Cheongju Dessert & Bakery Festa will be held for two days on October 18 and 19 along Bukmun-ro, at the Cheongju City Hall Plaza, and the nearby small park.

This year's festival, marking its second occurrence, is being prepared more thoroughly by reflecting the feedback from last year's attendees. It aims to enhance the festival experience by increasing the number of participating vendors, actively developing signature menus for each vendor, creating unique dessert and bakery content exclusive to Cheongju, and significantly improving facilities for the safety and convenience of the citizens.

After receiving a warm reception last year, the Cheongju Seasonal Original Downtown Alley Festival is gearing up to welcome citizens with even more novel and imaginative changes this year.

Under the theme "Authentic Cheongju Town," the festival will be held in Jungang-dong in April, Seongan-dong in August, and Daeseong-dong in October.Each event, corresponding with the seasons, aims to showcase the cultural uniqueness of the original downtown and the hidden charm of its alleyways. This festival will serve as a platform for revitalizing the local commercial district based on cultural values and fostering community unity.

A city official of Cheongju said, "Through Cheongju's unique cultural content, we aim to showcase the 'fun and exciting' appeal of Cheongju not only to our citizens but also to tourists from all over the country, making strides towards becoming a city renowned for its 'fun and exciting' attractions. Building on last year's success, we are committed to presenting an even more developed festival this year."
