2024 Cheongju Urban Agriculture Festival Will be Held on May 3–6
– Trigger interest in visitors with mustard flower fields along Musimcheon and a variety of hands-on programs – Cheongju City announced that 2024 Cheongju Urban Agriculture Festival consisting of hands-on agricultural programs would be held from May 3–6 at Cheongju Agriculture Technology Center Organic Farming Complex. Under the slogan, “Cheongju, the City of Life and Culture, Meets Agriculture!,” the city will hold a festival where everyone can enjoy the values of agriculture in urban areas. There are three things to pay attention in the festival. First, the mustard flower fields along the Musimcheon walking trails (next to the Cheongju Agriculture Technology Center) were well-received by visitors in 2023, so the city decided to increase the area of mustard flower fields by four times (43,774㎡). Second, the city will display a variety of models of backyard gardens, one of the easiest ways to experience urban agriculture and hold various backyard garden contests. In Organic Farming Complex, urban agriculture backyard gardens will open under 4 themes—pets, healing, senior citizens, and children. In addition, the 1-Pyeong Garden Contest will take place two times, on Apr. 20 and Apr. 27 respectively, in which family members can participate in groups. Gardens taken care of by participants will be on exhibit during the Urban Agriculture Festival. Citizens’ box gardens where kindergarteners, elementary, middle, and high school students have participated, will be on exhibit as well. Lastly, Cheongju will install rest areas in the venue so that citizens can rest while looking around the exhibitions and enjoying the programs. The city plans to install 17 large sun shelters in grass fields and rest areas with colorful benches in mustard flower fields for the comfort of the Cheongju citizens. Besides, 24 exhibitions will take place including the urban agriculture exhibition and the butterfly exhibition, 34 hands-on agricultural programs such as making small flower pots with recycled cups, cooking organic baby food, and feeding goats, 5 entertainment events involving busking and clowns, food trucks, and a flea market. The festival will be full of attractions to see, enjoy, and taste. A city official of Cheongju said, “We hope that many citizens of Cheongju experience the values of agriculture and a farming community, finding time to heal themselves with plants during the Urban Agriculture Festival.” |
