Renovated Musimcheon Flower Garden Filled with Springtime Air
– Planted 80,000 seedlings of 7 spring flower species and installed a greater celandine sculpture – On Apr. 8, Cheongju City announced that it had renovated the Musimcheon Flower Garden located under Heungdeok-daegyo Bridge. In Sep. 2023, the city installed 6,900㎡ flower gardens under Heungdeok-daegyo Bridge (339 Uncheon-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju-si) as part of the Eco-healing Waterside Park Remodeling Project in Musimcheon and Miho River, which was one of the election pledges of the 8th civil election. In addition, the city installed trails and benches so that its citizens can rest as they enjoy the flowers. The city planted 80,000 seedlings of 7 spring flower species, including garden pansy, garden verbena, and Brompton stock, and 80,000 seedlings of 15 herbaceous flower species, such as hydrangea and peony, to present the springtime air for its citizens. In addition, the city installed a greater celandine sculpture to attract the visitors’ eyes. A city official of Cheongju said, “Studies show that appreciating gardens reduces anxiety by 20% more than appreciating urban views, and spending time in a garden at least once a week lowers your stress level by 60%,” adding, “Hopefully, all citizens can enjoy healing at the flower gardens along with the spring season.” The city plans to plant seasonal flowers such as chrysanthemums and globe amaranths in Musimcheon in the fall. |
