Energetic Traditional Markets Full of Exciting Shows!
– Various shows of different genres including gukak (traditional Korean music), buchaechum (fan dance), fusion janggu (traditional Korean drum), and trot will be presented. – Cheongju City announced to hold the Traditional Market Relay Street Performances in Yukgeori Market, Gagyeong Terminal Market, and Bamgogae Natural Market once a month from Apr. to Nov. 2024 (except for July and August). The city has been presenting Traditional Market Relay Street Performances as one of the special policies of Cheongju since 2023 to create a cultural atmosphere in everyday life, fusing traditional markets and cultural arts. Starting with the first performance in Bamgogae Natural Market on Apr. 12, the performances will be held in Yukgeori Market on Apr. 24 and Gagyeong Terminal Market on Apr. 26. Hosted by the Cheongju Artists Association, five artist teams of different genres (pop, trot, gugak, buchaechum, and fusion janggu) performed for 40 minutes. Especially this year, there will also be separate market events and joint events in addition to performances. The city expects to revitalize the traditional markets and attract more customers through these events. In addition, Chungcheongbuk-do will hold an art performance titled, “The Cultural Market Day of Our Community,” as part of the traditional market revitalization project. In Cheongju, performances of different genres (gukak, percussion performance, pop, world music, popera, etc.) will be held in Wonmaru Market on Apr. 5, Bokdaegagyeong Market on Apr. 12, and Seomun Market on Apr. 13 and 27. A city official of Cheongju said, “We will present interesting performances to catch the customers and vendors’ eyes.” adding, “We hope visitors enjoy the performances as well as shopping at reasonable prices.” |
