The vehicles dedicated to helping senior citizens was named “Dolbomi,” which means to “be concerned for the elderly who need care and aid them.”

“Dolbomi” is expected to become the legs of senior citizens in various caring projects for the elderly feeling lonely and depressed, including relationship formation programs, and theme traveling as well as in activities such as transportation to hospitals, and the delivery of lunch boxes, side dishes, and donations.

Meanwhile, the government of Cheongju has decided on the establishment of Cheongju-type integrated caring system for senior citizens as the agenda for the eighth popularly elected administration, aiming to let the elderly people live healthy lives in the places in which they resided, providing various integrated caring services as well as establishing a caring system.

With the system, the city has been offering basic caring services, such as living support, daily chat, simple house mending work, to around 3,600 senior citizens. The city also runs a trial for the “hospital transportation service” in the Cheongwon-gu area for elderly people who have difficulties moving. As of September, around 350 senior citizens have used this service.

Furthermore, the city government strives to implement the “after-work caring service” for low-income senior citizens without family members to care for them by concluding business agreements with six medical institutes, including Hyosung Hospital, providing the caring service to around 30 elderly individuals.

In addition, the city government installed caring counters in the eup, myeon, and dong-level community service centers to establish the caring system and conducted an investigation on around 34,000 senior citizens aged 75 or above receiving basic pensions, excluding public caring service users, which led to finding 1,170 senior citizens and linking 1,380 service cases for their needs.

A city official stated, “In the times of the super-aging society, we will do our best to proactively discover private resources and establish a network for the stable retirement life and healthy living in the places of residence for all senior citizens.”
