Cheongwon Saengmyeong Rice, one of Cheongju's famous agricultural brands, received LOHAS certification this year, becoming the first in Korea to obtain the certification for 17 consecutive years. LOHAS, short for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability, is a certification awarded by the Korean Standards Association to the products of companies and organizations that pursue the values of health, the environment, and society while continuously developing innovative products and contributing to society. In 2007, Cheongwon Saengmyeong Rice was the first agricultural brand in Chungcheongbuk-do to acquire LOHAS certification. The brand has yet again made the achievement of passing the certification criteria after an objective and rigorous document review, on-site inspection, and final review by the LOHAS Certification Review Committee as required by the Korean Standards Association. The certification is valid for one year, from Septebmer 30, 2023 to September 29, 2024. Cheongwon Saengmyeong Rice is considered high-quality rice in the market due to its Good Agricultural Practices certification, eco-friendly farming methods (i.e. snail farming), strict quality control, and marketing. It has also received "Low Carbon" certification for 1,143 farms covering 1,141 hectares, the largest in Korea. A city official said, "The LOHAS certification proves the brand's efforts of guaranteeing the high quality of Cheongwon Saengmyeong Rice through eco-friendly farming methods and diverse marketing activities. Based on this, we will spare no effort to make Cheongwon Saengmyeong Rice, Cheongju's representative agricultural specialty brand, the best luxury rice in the country." |
