Title Cheongju to Implement “Transparent PET Plastic Bottle Collection Day” for Single-Family Houses
Writer Cheongju
Subject - Collecting transparent plastic bottles at local community service centers on every first and third Wednesdays of each month

Cheongju has announced the implementation of “Transparent PET Plastic Bottle Collection Day” for single-family houses on the first and third Wednesdays of each month starting in July.

Citizens can cleanse, remove labels from, and if possible, crush transparent PET plastic bottles before closing the lids and bring them to a local community service center on the designated days to take part.

For every five transparent PET plastic bottles, participants can receive a one “Cheongju Con.”
Cheongju Con is an incentive to encourage citizens to participate in environmental protection activities. Once a certain number of Cheongju Cons are collected, they can be converted into environmental miles or applied for prizes through “Throwaway Time,” a comprehensive environment app operated by Cheongju.

“In the case of single-family houses, transparent PET plastic bottles are mixed with general trash and colored plastics,” said a city official of Cheongju. He continued, stating, “We hope that citizens will be interested in and actively participate in the separate disposal of transparent PET plastic bottles.”

As a result of the first “Transparent PET Plastic Bottle Collection Day” on Jul. 5, a total of 363 transparent PET plastic bottles were collected from 43 local communities.

According to the revision of the “Guidelines on Separate Collection of Recyclable Resources” issued by the Ministry of Environment, the separate disposal of transparent PET plastic bottles was implemented for apartment buildings on Dec. 25, 2020, and for single-family houses on Dec. 25, 2021, respectively.
