Subject - Eligible if diagnosed with 1 of the 19 high-risk pregnancy complications and was hospitalized

On Aug. 12, Cheongju Community Health Center announced the implementation of “Medical Expense Support for High-Risk Pregnant Women” to ensure healthy childbirth and maternal health.

The support is available for pregnant women with a household income of 180% or less of the median income who have been diagnosed with 1 of the 19 high-risk pregnancy complications and have been hospitalized.

The 19 high-risk pregnancy complications include: preterm labor; postpartum hemorrhage; severe pre-eclampsia; premature rupture of amnion; placental abruption; placenta previa; threatened abortion; polyhydramnios; oligohydramnios; antepartum hemorrhage; incompetent cervix; hypertension; multiple gestation; diabetes; hyperemesis gravidarum with metabolic disturbance; kidney disease; heart failure; intrauterine growth restriction; and uterine and adnexal diseases.

Eligible beneficiaries are slated to receive support for 100% of the patient's share of insurance-covered medical expenses and 90% of non-covered medical expenses.

However, expenses such as the difference in the cost of a private ward, meals (special meals for patients), and non-medical expenses not related to the treatment of high-risk pregnancy complications are excluded.

The support limit is KRW 3 million per person, and applicants can visit their local community health center within 6 months from the date of delivery to apply.

For more information, contact Sangdang Community Health Center (+82-43-201-3166), Seowon Community Health Center (+82-43-201-3271), Heungdeok Community Health Center (+82-43-201-3365) or Cheongwon Community Health Center (+82-43-201-3492).

"The number of high-risk pregnancies is increasing due to changing attitudes toward marriage and women's increased social activities, resulting in late marriages and pregnancies," said a community health center official. He added, "We will continue to make efforts in an effort to reduce the financial burden of pregnancy and childbirth by supporting treatment costs for high-risk pregnancy complications."
