Title Cheongju City to Open a Resting Area for Dog Walkers in Jungang Park in Ochang-eup

Subject - A communal place for residents with dogs -

Cheongju City announced that a resting area for dog walkers in Jungang Park in Guryong-ri, Ochang-eup, Cheongwon-gu is open from May 18.

There has been a criticism in the Ochang-eup region that there is no place for residents with dogs to relax. Oftentimes dog lovers and citizens of Cheongju had conflicts over the problems such as unleashed dogs or public defecation of dogs.

The city has created a separate zone for dog walkers in an attempt to tackle this problem and let dog walkers relax peacefully without disturbing the peace of other walkers.

The resting area for dog walkers is about 500 m2 with perimeter fences and convenience facilities such as dog leash holders and outdoor tables.

The facility will be operated in such a way that dog owners may use and manage it by themselves, following general etiquette. The city intends to survey customer satisfaction at the facility in the future.

An official of Cheongju stated, “I hope that a mature companion animal rearing culture can be established where pet owners and citizens can coexist.”

Meanwhile, the resting area for dog walkers at Jungang Park in Ochang-eup is the third resting area for dogs in Cheongju, after those at Jungheung Park in Sangdang-gu and Yulbong Park in Cheongwon-gu, which opened last year.
