Cheongju City will conduct an “intensive safety inspection to increase national safety from March 17th to June 16th (61 days).

The inspection is a social safety movement in which central ministries, local governments, and the public take part to discover, address, and resolve risk factors in our society and raise citizens' safety awareness.

The inspection will cover 96 locations in 7 areas, centering on seven construction facilities, 12 living and leisure facilities, 22 environmental and energy facilities, 22 transportation facilities, five industrial and construction sites, 18 health, welfare, and food facilities, and 10 others.

The inspection will be conducted by using a checklist and inspection guides under individual laws for each type of facility, and the public and private sectors will cooperate, in principle.

To this end, the city formed an intensive safety inspection promotion team led by Shin Byung-dae, vice mayor of Cheongju, as well as a pool of 20 safety advisory panels and 153 experts from each field of electricity, gas, civil engineering, architecture, and firefighting.

Furthermore, the quality of the inspection has been improved by using state-of-the-art equipment such as drones and ground penetrating radars.

Upon performing inspections, minor matters will be corrected immediately, and severe defects and risk factors will get emergency safety measures such as repair, reinforcement, and restrictions to prevent disasters.

“We will carry out intensive safety inspections thoroughly while being aware that a major accident may occur at any time,” said a city official. “We will also distribute safety checklists for households and public facilities to increase citizens' participation.”
