Subject - Autonomous driving testbed, “C-Track.” officially opened on March 31st
- Anticipated to serve as an open innovation hub to strengthen autonomous driving capabilities

Cheongju City will become a leading city of autonomous driving technology in the central region.

The Autonomous Driving Testbed* in Chungcheongbuk-do (“C-Track), which was built to meet the demand for autonomous driving technology development in non-metropolitan areas and development of specialized mobility services in the region, will open on March 31st and begin full-scale operation.
* An environment, system, or facility to test the performance and effectiveness of a newly developed technology, product, and service

More than 200 officials attended the opening ceremony, including Shin Byung-dae (Vice Mayor of Cheongju), Byun Jae-il (member of the National Assembly), Heo Chul and Song Byung-ho (members of the Cheonju City Council), Kim Myung-gyu (Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Chungcheongbuk-do), and Jung Hyung-pil (Director-General of the Mobility and Motor Vehicles Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).

Selected during the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public offering in 2019, C-Track was built on a scale of 83,096 ㎡ within the Chungbuk National University Ochang Campus (45 Yangcheong 4-gil, Ochang-eup, Cheongwon-gu). The project attracted investments totaling KRW 29.5 billion, including national road expenses.

The testbed is equipped with essential autonomous vehicle test facilities including signal intersections and pedestrian roads, and imitates various city environments, such as construction sections, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) roads, and shoulder parking areas. It offers suitable test facilities for mobility service development and demonstration.

C-Track will support the autonomous driving research and safety evaluation of small and medium-sized enterprises, research institutes, and universities.

In addition, the place will be used for offering job experience programs for elementary, middle school, and high school students, refresher training for employees, autonomous driving competitions, and autonomous driving experience events for the general public.

C-Track accepts applications and reservations through the Smart Car Research Center website (cbnuscrc.org) or by phone (+82-249-1683).
More details, such as fees, can be found on the Smart Car Research Center website.

“C-Track in Cheongju has a geographical advantage that it is accessible within two hours from anywhere in the country,” said a city official. “According to our preliminary demand survey showing that more than 60 institutions hope to use the facility, we anticipate that the testbed will serve as an open innovation hub for strengthening the autonomous driving capabilities of Korea.”
