Cheongju announced on Dec. 12 that the city has installed 377 new 'road signboards for pedestrians' in alleys and back roads with dense traffic, so that citizens can easily find their destination with the road name address.
Since 2014, the road name address has been set forth and in order make it easier to use road name addresses, the city has installed a total of 11,534 pedestrian road name plates, including 377 this year. Road name plates of road name addresses are installed primarily for vehicles, which makes it difficult for pedestrians to find their way through alleys and narrow streets. Compared to pedestrian road name plates, road name plates for vehicles are placed relatively high, making it difficult for pedestrians to find the road name and address. Thus, the city installed additional pedestrian road nameplates on back roads and alleys to ease the inconvenience of citizens and encourage them to use the relatively new address system. A city official said, “We will continue to install pedestrian road name plates in the blind spots of location guidance so that any citizen can easily find their way.” |
