Cheongju will hold the Alley Festival at Yukgeori Market for three days from Oct. 18 to Oct. 20 to vitalize the traditional market.
As Yukgeori Market was selected as one of the beneficiaries of Chungcheongbuk-do’s project, it will receive support from the province to carry out its traditional market vitalization project that links arts, culture and tourist resources. ‘Alley Festival’ that the market will hold this time targets stores in small alleys, in particular, which not many visitors to the market bother to visit. The festival is intended to invigorate those stagnant alleys so that the whole market can be developed as lively and well-balanced. The project, which started in September, will be executed three times until November. The first event took place last month with more than 500 visitors while the second one will be held for three days from Oct. 18 to Oct. 20. There will be roulette giveaways for those who bring a receipt from their purchase from 1 PM to 4 PM at the plaza in front of the market gate, in front of Yuchang Store at the Hanmaeum Cooperative Samgeori, and in front of Tap-dong Grocery inside the alley near Dokkaebi Market Sageori. The third event will take place on the 1st of the next month as a “neighborhood love festival for market visitors and merchants.” An official of Cheongju said, “We would like citizens to pay attention to our efforts as we will continue to promote special projects to provide traditional market visitors with things to watch and enjoy by developing various programs with original contents of each market.” Seong Nak-woon, president of Yukgeori Market Cooperative, said, “We hope this event will be the catalyst to vitalize the stagnant economy while making market visitors wear a happy smile on their faces when their brisk steps lead to our market.” |
