Cheongju plans to receive applications for the ‘Cheongju emergency SMS alert service’, which helps citizens ease their anxiety, by sending text messages regarding disasters-including an advisory of heavy rain, cold wave and other weather events, as well as Musimcheon Stream's roads overflooding warnings.
There are two types of disaster text messages in order to reduce or prevent damage, in the case of life, body, and property loss. Firstly, there is CBS(Cell Broadcasting Service) provided by the Ministry of Interior and Safety and the second one is the Cheongju emergency SMS alert service, provided by the city of Cheongju. The Ministry of Interior and Safety sends essential information to all mobile phones adjacent to Cheongju's telecommunications base station. The messages sent for the safety of citizens include issuing weather warnings and situations that require the evacuation of residents. Unfortunately, as the transmission standards are too strict it is impossible to send relatively less important information related to disasters. On the other hand, the Cheongju emergency SMS alert service is transmitted to about 32,000 citizens including local community leaders (i.e. heads of ri, tong, and ban), officials of the occupation association, the vulnerable, officials in the agricultural and livestock sector, and other applicants. It is especially helpful, given the detailed information such as Musimcheon Stream's roads overflooding warnings can be sent. If you apply for this service, text messages including issuance and release of weather warnings; availability of Musimcheon Stream's roads; instructions in case of disasters; notification related to safety will be provided. Citizens of Cheongju or any city residents can apply for the Cheongju emergency SMS alert service and the application can be done by accessing the Cheongju city website (information by sector→ safety/ disaster→ apply for disaster SMS alert service); visiting the department of safety policy on the second floor of the provisional Cheongju city hall (limited office hours); filling out application and sending it through fax(+82-43-201-1709). |
