Title Cheongju Early Printing Museum to Create and Expand Programs
Writer Cheongju
Subject Cheongju Early Printing Museum will be establishing new programs such as immersive contents for the Jikji (Korean Buddhist document) and expanding its operations in the areas of group tours, guided tours, and experiential activities that had been limited after the outbreak of COVID-19.

The museum had restricted group tours since February 2020 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Now that we are returning to ordinary days, group tours will be allowed observing strict COVID-19 protocols.

Guided tours and experiential programs will also be expanded for visitors.

Guided tours are available every day four times a day (9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM) upon reservation by phone (+82-43-201-4266).

Cheongju Early Printing Museum applied immersive content, such as AR, interactive and motion recognition technologies, to showcase Korea’s printing culture of the past, present and future in three different spaces, aiming to deliver the value of the Jikji and the excellence of Korean movable metal type printing to visitors.

The Modern and Contemporary Printing Museum operates various experiential programs, such as mug printing, diary making, and monthly one-day classes (e.g. lamp, calendar and 3D pen art classes).

The museum also operates a cyber smart museum via smartphone app for mediated museum visits (search and download “Cheongju Early Printing Museum” on Google Play or the App Store).

This app, available for download on PC, smartphone, and tablet, offers detailed information of exhibits and panoramic views of exhibition halls in virtual reality, allowing users to enjoy the museum without visiting.

A wide selection of videos, including “Cheongju and the Jikji,” “Story of Heungdeoksa Temple,” and “Korean Movable Metal Type Printing,” are available for easy understanding of the Jikji.

English, Chinese, and Japanese multilingual services are also available for non-Korean speakers.

All programs are free, and hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM every day except for Mondays. Contact +82-43-201-4266 for group tours or other inquiries.

A museum official said, “As the representative public museum and cultural resource of Cheongju, we will continue to fulfill our roles and strive to spread positive economic effects in the region,” and added, “We will create and expand more programs to become more recognized by visitors.”
