This month, the Cheongju Public Health Center started “Dudeurim,” a smart medication counseling service, to provide education for improving the drug compliance of patients with dementia and monitor the patients’ medication status.
For the medication counseling service, 20 dementia patients subject to case management that are registered with the Center for Dementia are selected. Before the program starts, these patients will receive K-CIST (cognitive impairment screening test). Then, the patients’ medication status will be checked through visitation or over-the-phone counseling once a week. By following the disease prevention regulations in response to COVID-19, the counselors visited the homes of the dementia patients and provided them with a medication notebook and education to improve drug compliance. In addition, K-CIST will be conducted every six months to check for a delay in the progress of dementia. A public health center official said, “We will dedicate our best efforts to reduce the burden of the families of dementia patients by detecting dementia in its early stages and slowing down the progress of the disease through steady medication.” Sangdang-gu Public Health Center provides senior citizens who need dementia treatment subsidies along with a medication calendar. This is a calendar with small pouches bearing dates attached to it. It ensures the accurate medication of senior citizens by helping them remember how much of the drug to take. With the pills placed in the pouches in advance, dementia patients can conveniently take the pills at the required time. The medication calendar is expected to help senior citizens take their medication properly by preventing the skipping or repetitive intake of drugs.
