Cheongju-si promotes establishment of “Women-Friendly Parking Lot Guidelines”
- Final guidelines scheduled to be confirmed in September of this year -

Cheongju-si is establishing “Women-Friendly Parking Lot Guidelines” that can be used as a reference when constructing parking lots in new public facilities.
The “Women-Friendly Parking Lot Guidelines” suggest standards that can be applied when constructing or renovating parking lots in public facilities to ensure safety and convenience for women, caretakers of children, the elderly, and more.
While parking lots are frequently used by many people on a daily basis, they offer a weak sense of security or safety for women, which is why it is important to secure safety in parking lots.
In addition, drivers with infants and children, pregnant women, and people suffering from temporary disabilities require bigger spaces for getting in or out of a vehicle. Nowadays, a growing number of women-only parking lots and priority parking lots are being installed.
However, there is a great deal of confusion when forming these parking lots due to a lack of consistent and detailed guidelines. Through the publication of these guidelines, Cheongju-si is seeking to set a clear standard that can be applied in the field.
The parking lot guidelines will be applied to parking lots constructed in public facilities, including government office and government office-affiliated parking lots, libraries, health clinics, gyms, and more.
More specifically, these guidelines will contain information selected from the existing women-friendly parking lot guidelines as well as supplementary information that best suits situations in Cheongju-si. In addition, they will include scenarios that consider paths of movement taken by women in parking lots, ensuring that planners build safe parking lots for women in various situations.
For this, the Green Cheongju Council will commence research on the “Women-friendly Parking Lot Guidelines,” and confirm the final guidelines in September of this year.
Cheongju-si was selected by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family as a Level 1 Women-Friendly City from 2011 to 2015, and as a Level 2 Women-Friendly City from 2016 to 2020. The city has been promoting various projects such as the Spread of a Culture of Gender Equality, Safe and Convenient City, Participatory Culture, and Healthy City. The city is going to apply for designation as Level 3 in August.
