What are the indie games selected by Chungbuk Global Game Center?

Chungbuk Global Game Center has released the results of the ‘2020 Indie Game Development Support Program.’ Chungbuk Global Game Center is an organization supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Office, and Cheongju City Hall, and managed by the Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation (CCIPE, Secretary-General Park Sang-eon).

A total of 14 companies and teams have applied for the program targeting future business owners and independent game companies throughout the country. Of the applicants, six teams were selected as finalists including ‘Studio Sisi’ which proposed a dialogue-based puzzle game, ‘Funtory’ which proposed a music game that plays tunes according to movements, ‘Hypergate’, ‘Waffle Games’, ‘PDDS’, and ‘MP Games’.

The selected teams and winners will be launching their games by
November 30, and each team will be granted development funds of KRW 40 million and the opportunity to move into Chungbuk Global Game Center (where rental expenses and maintenance fees will be waived). In addition, the winner will be able to access programs such as an expert mentor program to help develop games and business models.

The experts who participated in the reviewing process said, “We saw so many innovative ideas that it was quite difficult to choose between them. In particular, some companies made proposals based on new concepts that we have never seen before. We really look forward to following them and watching their continued growth.”

A Chungbuk Global Game Center representative also added, “I felt overwhelmed by the brilliant ideas proposed by all of the 14 companies and teams. Through the ‘Indie Game Development Support Program’ that we tried for the first time this year, we were able to catch a glimpse of the vast potential of the indie game industry. With this in mind, we aim to expand the indie game development support program, and ultimately bring about a new change in the domain of the global game market.”
