- Over 1,590 Cases of Emergency Repairs to Homes as of the 25th … Emergency Repair Rate of 96% -
The Cheongju region is in the midst of the final stages of making urgent repairs to more than 50 flooded homes. Over 1,640 cases of house flooding have occurred in relation to the heavy rain that occurred in the 16th, and over 1,590 cases of emergency repairs (as of the 25th) have taken place, resulting in an emergency repair rate of 96%. However, as floor paper, wallpaper, furniture, and home appliances have been submerged underwater as a result of flooding, the scale of damage is such that even with emergency repairs, floor papers and wallpapers must be replaced at the very least in order to ensure that residents can live in their homes properly. Furthermore, as all home appliances have gone out of order, residents find themselves without even an electric fan to protect them from the blistering heat and frequent downpours, resulting in a great deal of exhaustion in the face of hot and humid environments. However, as most of the submerged homes belong to those in lower income brackets who live underground, semi-underground, and lowlands, it is not possible to replace the wallpaper or floor paper immediately. As a result, the residents must console themselves with the electric fans that are being provided partially as relief goods. In the midst of these hard times, news is spreading that some organizations are planning on voluntarily providing wallpaper and floor paper replacement services to over 100 low-income households through talent donation. Meanwhile, Cheongju-si is deploying 15 emergency health official groups made up of 64 people, circulating ambulances, and medical personnel to prevent infections from spreading in flooded regions and manage the health of victims and volunteers alike. A city official revealed, “We hope that warm helping hands can reach victims in flooded regions and let them live ordinary lives.” ▶ Contact: Disaster Situation Room (201-1657) |
