Cheongju City is making foreign language interpreter workforce bank. As large scale international events and exchange projects with international exchange cities have been expanded since the Integrated Cheongju was launched, the City is implementing this project to respond to it more efficiently and strengthen the capabilities of Cheongju City as an international city. Accordingly, the City is recruiting volunteers until March 20 to become a member of ‘Foreign Language Interpreter Workforce Bank’ and work as a volunteer interpreter. The number of people being recruited is total of 50, and the fields are English (20), Chinese (10), Japanese (10), Russian (3), Vietnamese (3), Spanish (2), and Arabic (2). Any Cheongju citizens who can speak the language concerned, or foreigners living in Cheongju can apply for the position. Those who wish to work as a volunteer interpreter may visit Investment Promotion Division of Cheongju City Hall or apply by mail or email (toyou0429@korea.kr) until March 20, and if the number of actually recruited member is fewer than the maximum number of recruitment, applications are accepted even after the recruiting period is over. The chosen volunteer interpreters will participate in the major events hosted by Cheongju-si, and give guidance to the foreigners. Plus, if Cheongju City’s International Exchange City representatives are visiting, the chosen volunteer interpreters will be providing interpreting assistance activities. The City will conduct education 1–2 times per year on improving the mindset, and the roles and attitude for the volunteer interpreters. The City will also provide incentives such as management of volunteer performances, payment of actual expenses for the activities, provision of Cheongju City tourist maps and event leaflets through the Cheongju Volunteer Center.
