Cheongju city had the opening ceremony of 'Special exhibition for restoring Goryeo metal type' in Cheongju Early Printing Museum, at 3rd(Fri), 3:30 pm.

In the opening ceremony, 50 people attended including Lee, Seung-hoon, the mayer of Cheongju, Kim Gi-dong, the Vice-Chairman and Councillor of Cheongju and Park Jinhak, the head of Armed Forces printing.

Opening ceremony was proceeded in a order of greeting of Lee, Seung-hoon, the mayer of Cheongju, cutting tape, and watching the exhibition.

The mayer, Lee said in the greeting of that day "Jikhi is the representative cultural heritage of Cheongju that all citizens are proud of"and he said "This special exhibition which exhibits jikji by reprinting Jikji in 638 years in Heungdeoksa where Jikji was printed in 1377, is the result of passion of citizens made".

This exhibition is held in 2nd floor of the project exhibition hall of Cheongju Early Printing Museum by this 31th, August with the them of 'Flower blooming with types', celebrating the restoring of Goryeo metal type.













Cheongju City attracted the attention of audiences by exhibiting the process of restoring Jikji metal type with real materials in this exhibition, by "Restoring project for Goryeo metal type' executed from 2011 to 2015.

"Jikji" is the world's leading metal printed book exhibiting now, and the representative cultural heritage of Cheongju, which is listed by UNESCO as world documentary heritage in 2001.
But unfortunately, the original is in France, and the city has been opening the festival which revalue its value and increase the sense of pride of citizens through events such as Jikji festival and awards of Jikji prize so far.

Restoring of Goryeo metal type is the project proceeded by Cheongju city with the support from the Cultural Heritage Administration and North Chungcheong Province, with the hope of Cheongju citizens, and completed restoring last year.

Cheongju Early Printing Museum reprinted 'Jikji' by restoring 30000 metal types characters of 'Jikji' firstㆍsecond volume by investing 1.8 billion won of the total business expense for 5 years.
This has been 638 since the last publication of 'Jikji' in metal type in Heungdeoksa in Cheongju in 1377(Goryeo, Wowang 3). Cheongju City has been researching the ground of Heungdeoksa in the whole area of Uncheondong in 1985, and established Cheongju Early Printing Museum, and researched the metal type printing culture of Korea focusing on 'Jikji' and has been playing the role of exhibiting the result.
'Jikji' which is published newly, has more significancy because the type was made 600 years ago, and it was reborn in Heungdeoksa which printed 'Jikji'.

The exhibition is composed of three parts.
'Birth' of Jikji in Heungdeoksa, Cheongju in 1377, 'Journey' which it travels to France, and the 'revival' which is reborn in Cheongju are composed in story format, and audience will easily understand Jikji, and rethink of the value.

Section 1, 'birth' is going to introduce the process which 'Jikji' is published in Heungdeoksa, Cheongjumok in 1377. 'Jikji' was published by donations of Seokchan who was the literary person of the author, Baekunhwasang Kyeonghan monk, Daljam and buddhist nun, Myodeok, and it is recorded in the end of a volume of 'Jikji'.

Section 2 'journey' is going to introduce the process of 'Jikji' which was handed down to the Joseon Dynasty by the end of 19th century, collected by Kkolrang de-ppeulrangsi and possessed by the French National Library through photos, images, and the French National Library. In addition there is a figure of Jikji being introduced to our country by being certified as the world's leading metal printed book in France.

Section 3 'revival' is going to show the excavation of Heungdeoksaji and the restoring process of 'Jikji' metal type which revived just after 638 years with image materials vividly. In addition, the exhibition is going to be configured to leave a deep impression of 'Jikji' to audiences by exhibiting 78 plates of the first and second volumes of 'Jikji' metal type as if types are arranged in a book.

This exhibition is permanently operated as 'Jikji hall' after finishing the special exhibition, and it is expected to be the representative tourism resources of Cheongju.
